Climate Change Chart of Kolkata, India

Overview of climate changes

Temperature changes

Averaged across calendar months, the difference in monthly mean temperature was +0.26 °C; this is an unweighted comparison of monthly means, not a day-weighted annual average or a measure of daytime highs. The month-specific differences varied: January had a difference of -1.41 °C, while November had a difference of +1.07 °C. These identify the largest monthly decrease and increase, respectively, rather than describing every month or a continuous change between the reference periods.

Changes in rainfall

Mean daily rainfall, rather than monthly totals, averaged to a difference of +0.05 mm/day across calendar months; this is an unweighted mean of the monthly comparisons. The month-to-month pattern was not uniform: April recorded the largest decrease, a difference of -1.77 mm/day, while July recorded the largest increase, a difference of +1.63 mm/day. These extrema describe the specified monthly mean daily amounts and do not imply that rainfall changed in the same direction in every month.

Changes in sunshine duration

Mean daily sunshine duration showed an unweighted difference of -0.18 hours/day averaged across calendar months, not a day-weighted annual comparison. The monthly differences included the largest decrease in June, at -0.51 hours/day, and the largest increase in November, at +0.31 hours/day. These comparisons describe monthly mean daily hours across the two reference periods; they do not indicate a continuous trend or that all months followed the overall mean difference.
